Human Skeleton

Pelvis- The pelvis is a basin shaped structure that supports the spinal column and protects the abdominal organs.

It contains the following-

  • Sacrum– The sacrum is a large, triangular bone at the base of the spine.
  • Coccyx– The coccyx, commonly referred to as the tailbone is the final segment of the vertebral column.
  • Three hip bones– 1. Ilium 2. Pubis 3. Ischium

Leg

  • The lower leg is comprised of two bones, The tibia and the smaller fibula.
  • The thigh bone, or femur is the large upper leg bone that connects the lower leg bones to the pelvic bone.

Femur- Femur or thigh bone is the proximal bone of the hindlimb in tetrapod vertebrates. It is the longest and haviest bone of human Skeleton.

Tibia- The tibia also known as shinbone or shankbone, is the larger, stronger and anterior of the two bones in the leg below the know.

Fibula- The fibula or calf bone is a leg bone on the lateral side of the tibia.

Feet– The human foot consists of 26 bones. These bones fall into three group : The Tarsal bones, metatorsal bones and Phalanges.

  • Tarsal Bones– The tarsal bones are a group of seven bones that make the rear section of the foot.
  • Metatarsal Bones– The metatarsal bones are a group of five tubular bones in the middle of the foot. They connect to the tarsal bones and the phalanges.
  • Phalanges– The phalanges are the bones in the bones. The second to fifth toes each contain three phalanges.
