Earth is around 71% water and 29% land. This 29% land is divided into 7 Continents. A continent is one of several very large landmasses. Continents are understood to be large, continuous, discrete masses of land, ideally separated by expanses of water. The list of 7 Continents are given below.
- Asia
- Africa
- North America
- South America
- Antarctica
- Europe
- Australia
Asia– Asia is Earth’s largest and most populous continent, located primarily in the Eastern and Northern Hemispheres. Asia covers one-third of earth’s surface. It has 30% pf world land area and 60% of population. It contains the world’s largest country, Russia, and the world’s two most populous countries, China and India.
Africa– Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most populous continent, after Asia. The world’s longest river The Nile and the world’s largest desert The Sahara both are in Africa. The equator passes through the middle of Africa.
North America– North America is a continent entirely within the Northern Hemisphere and almost all within the Western Hemisphere.
South America– South America is a continent in the Western hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere.
Antarctica– Antarctica is Earth’s southernmost continent. It contains the geographic South Pole and is situated in the Antarctic region of the Southern Hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle. Antarctica is not only the coldest place on Earth but also Antarctica sees half a year of light and half a year of complete darkness.
Europe– Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere.
Australia– Australia is the world’s smallest continent and is also known as an ‘island continent’ as it is surrounded by water on all sides. Australia lies entirely on the south of the equator.
