Delhi sultanate have five Dynasty. The Era of Delhi Sultanate start from 1206 to 1526. The first dynasty of Delhi Sultanate was Slave Dynasty and the last was Lodhi Dynasty.

The Slave Dynasties (1206-1290)– Slave Dynasty also known as Mamluk Dynasty. The capital of this dynasty is Lahore.

Qutb al-Din Aibak(1206-1210)-

  • Qutub-din-Aibek was the slave of Muhammad Ghori and was also the founder of Slave Dynasty.
  • He started the construction of Qutb Minar. Qutb Minar was named after the Sufi saint “Qutubdin Bakhtiyar-kaki”.
  • He get the title of ‘Laakh Baksh’.
  • ‘Quwat-ul-Islam’ and ‘Adhai-Din-Ka-Jhopra’ two mosques was constructed by him.
  • The capital of Qutub-ud-Din-Aibak was Lahore.
  • He died while playing Chaugan(Polo).
  • He was succeeded by Iltutmish.

Iltutmish(1210-1236)-

  • He was the real founder of Slave Dynasty.
  • Iltutmish changed the capital from Lahore to Delhi.
  • He formed “Turk-e-chihalgani” or “Chalisaa”. Chalisaa
  • He started two coins ‘Tanka(silver)’ and ‘Jital(copper)’.
  • He succeeded by Razia Sultanate.

Razia Sultana(1236-1240)-

  • Razia Sultana was the daughter of Iltutmish.
  • She was the first and the last muslim woman who ruled over Delhi Sultanate.
  • Razia Sultana was succeeded by Ghiyas ud din Balban.

Ghiyas ud din Balban(1266-1287)

  • Balban was the slave of Iltutmish.
  • He broke the power of Chalisa.
  • He started the Iranian festival Nauroj.
  • He started the Sijda and Paibos.
  • Balban was killed by Zalal-ud-din khilji and he founded Khilji Dynasty.

The Khilji Dynasty(1290-1320)

Zalal-ud-din Firoz Khilji(1290-96)

  • Jalal-ud-din Khilji founded the Khilji Dynasty.
  • He was murdered by Ala
  • He was succeeded by Ala-ud-din Khilji.

Ala-ud-din Khilji(1296-1316)

  • He was the greatest ruler of the Khilji Dynasty
  • He was the first Sultan who attacked South India.
  • He introduced ‘Daag’ for horses and ‘Chehra'(detailed discription of soldier).
  • He had a slave Malik Kafur.
  • He constructed Alai Darwaza.
  • Ala-ud-din was killed by his commander Malik Kafur.
  • Amir Khusru was the court poet of Ala-ud-din.
  • He was succeeded by Shihab ad-Din Omar.

Shihab ad-Din Omar(1316)

  • He was the third Sultan of Khilji.

Qutb ad-Din Mubarak(1316-1320)

  • He was the last ruler of Khilji dynasty.
