Longitude and Latitude are imaginary lines drawn on maps to easily locate places on the earth. Both are measured in terms of the 360 degrees of a circle.

Longitude- Longitude is a geographic coordinates that specifies the east-west position of a point on the Earth’s surface. One of the imaginary circles parallel to the Prime Meridian is called Longitude.

There are two imp Longitude-

  1. Prime Meridian- 0 Degree Longitude
  2. International Date Line- 180 Degree E/W Longitude

Latitude– Latitude is a geographic coordinates that specifies the north-south position of a point on the Earth’s surface. One of the imaginary circles parallel to the Equator is called Latitude.

Named Latitude on The surface- Besides the Equator, four other parallels are-

  1. Arctic Circle
  2. Tropic of Cancer
  3. Tropic of Capricorn
  4. Antarctic circle
